Iliana ’s  Summer Tour in Bulgaria

This August, Iliana Bozhanova, known to many from her teaching at workshops and camps in the U.S., Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Holland, Switzerland and Israel, is leading a tour to Rhodopi mountains.It includes two folk areas-Rhodopi and Pirin.  

Iliana writes:Dear Friends, The basic idea of my tours in Bulgaria is meeting our folk groups in their villages.   For years, I have tried to explain to my students all over the world about the deep connection between folk culture and real life in Bulgaria . The best way to understand this is by visiting the people and experiencing their own environment.  

Iliana’s tour will take place during the week immediately following the Folk Music & Dance Seminar in Plovdiv , at the Academy of Music , Dance and Fine Arts ( www.folkseminarplovdiv.com ).

The tour includes two big events- The Gaida /bagpipe/ Festival in Gela on August 3 ; Pirin pee or Rozhen pee Folk Festivals on August 9,10 – if they will be organized in 2008; The places we are going to visit are located from East to West part of Rhodopi mountains.The population-Bulgarians,Bulgarian-Moslems,Turks and Gipsys.
